The Shoot

What are your rates?

I offer two types of photographic shoot – Case Study photography and Advertising photography, which are charged differently. Further details are below to help you decide which is the best option for you.

Case Study Photography:

-       Discussion of brief and list of elements to be covered

-       Shooting on location to cover brief, focusing on telling the story of a space

-       Approximately 20 to 30 images can be created per day with standard post-production services included

-       Can extend to include 5 - 10 evening images for an extra fee

A case study shoot is ideal for you if you are aiming to create a larger set of images that tell the story of a space. I will work with you to understand your brief and make sure I’m aware of the important elements of the space that you want to cover.

Once on location I will photograph the space over the course of a day, working with the natural light and focusing on showcasing the feeling created by the space and its details. I am usually able to create between 20 to 30 images during a day, and 5 to 10 during an evening shoot.

The cost of a case study shoot includes standard post-production services to make sure that the images look their best and enhance the feeling of the space. This doesn’t include more complicated and extreme retouching such as removing large items, changing wall colours etc. - but this can be arranged and included for an extra fee.

Advertising Photography:

-       In-depth discussion of brief, including specific shot angles and styling plans

-       Lighting setups will be planned in detail to create the perfect style and feeling

-       Can work with your own stylist or can provide a stylist (at extra cost)

-       5 - 10 images can be created per day

-       In depth post-production service including colour correction, retouching, and compositing (charged separately on a per image basis)

Advertising photography is the right choice for you if you want to create a set of more specific, stylised images that sell a lifestyle. The approach is detailed and requires more pre-planning - we’ll discuss the exact shot angles and specific images you want to create, and work out how this will be achieved.

On the day we will work together to create the perfect images - moving furniture and props, and tweaking and balancing natural and artificial lighting as required. I can provide a stylist to work with, or you may prefer to use your own. You can expect between 5 and 10 images to be created per day, depending on the product and the space involved.

After the shoot my retouching team and I will spend a significant amount of time on the post-production of your images. This will include colour correction, retouching, compositing, applying client image feedback and preparing the images for delivery. This work is charged separately to the shoot fee on a per image basis.

Rate sheet for all fees is available upon request, send me an email and I will get it right over to you.

What is cost sharing?

Sharing the cost of a project is a common and useful practice. You may want to consider other parties who might benefit from photographs of your project, e.g. the owner, interior designers, landscape architects, contractors, consultants, product manufacturers, engineers, etc. I charge a licensing fee for each additional party, then divide the total shoot fee by the number of parties involved, which can lead to huge savings for each client.

An example of cost sharing can be found on the rate sheet which is available upon request, just send me an email

How many case studies can you photograph in a day?

Ideally I only photograph one case study per day, as this gives me the opportunity to follow the light around the building making sure the design looks its absolute best. However, I understand that sometimes budgets can be tight or design work can be minimal. If the logistics work out, it may be possible to shoot more than one location in a day - and I am happy to discuss options and help wherever I can.

LICENSING AND USAGE

Who owns the rights to images after a shoot?

All images are intellectual property and George Sharman Photography will retain the copyrights to all the images created. Images are licensed to clients for specific use and duration.

A helpful way to think of licensing is to compare it to software. If you “buy” Microsoft Office, you don’t technically own it, Microsoft does. You’ve simply purchased a license for use on your machine. This doesn’t mean you can install it on every computer in your workplace (without buying additional licenses) or share it with other people to install on their machines (like friends, family, neighbours, etc). Each of those other people would need to license their own copy from Microsoft

Is there a standard license included with your fee?

The standard licensing includes 10 years of the following rights: editorial, internal usage portfolio, lectures, brochures, website, competitions, awards, social media and PR and press.

Can I share the images with others, like subcontractors, to use?

Third-party usage is not included with the standard licensing. Others interested in using the images must obtain appropriate usage license from me in order to avoid infringement.

I have a rate sheet which outlines the cost for third party image rights, once again, mail me and I shall send it across.

How can I license images you created for another client?

As long as the client who commissioned the shoot is happy for the images to be used, then you can just mail me with details on which image(s) and I shall send you back an invoice followed by a link to download the image(s).

Can I post the images to social media?

Absolutely! I want your project to get as much publicity as possible. Social media usage is included in our standard license for 10 years. I also invite you to tag me in any Instagram posts using the handle @sharman.george
